Les morts subites du sportif frappent d’autant plus les esprits qu’elles touchent des personnes en excellente sant\u00e9 physique apparente. Et que des champions s’effondrent en direct, \u00e0 la t\u00e9l\u00e9vision. En France, environ 800 sportifs amateurs en sont victimes chaque ann\u00e9e, et une quinzaine de professionnels. Dans 80 % des cas, ce sont des hommes \u00e2g\u00e9s de 40 \u00e0 50 ans.<\/p>\n\n

Les causes principales<\/h2>\n\n

Plus de huit fois sur dix, ces morts sont li\u00e9es \u00e0 des arythmies cardiaques : le plus souvent, une fibrillation ventriculaire, cette tornade \u00e9lectrique qui balaie le c\u0153ur. Dans la moiti\u00e9 des cas, l’origine de cette arythmie peut \u00eatre identifi\u00e9e : en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, c’est une maladie du c\u0153ur, qui s’\u00e9paissit ou se dilate, ou une pathologie des art\u00e8res coronaires causant un infarctus.<\/p>\n\n

Le d\u00e9fi de l’identification<\/h2>\n\n

Mais dans l’autre moiti\u00e9 des cas, aucune cause n’est trouv\u00e9e malgr\u00e9 la batterie d’examens pratiqu\u00e9e. \u00ab Le paradoxe de ces morts subites inexpliqu\u00e9es, c’est qu’il existe des dispositifs pour les pr\u00e9venir, en particulier les d\u00e9fibrillateurs implantables \u00bb, explique Michel Ha\u00efssaguerre, cardiologue et rythmologue \u00e0 l’universit\u00e9 de Bordeaux. \u00ab Encore faut-il pouvoir identifier les personnes \u00e0 risque. Or, aucune m\u00e9thode ne permet aujourd’hui de les d\u00e9tecter. \u00bb<\/p>\n\n
